Mrs Maria George circa 1955	A Brief History of Maria George Pty Ltd Maria George moved to Australia as an immigrant in the 40's and started importing beads, sequins, crystals and trims from Europe in the 1950's. Having first established her business in the Melbourne suburb of Fitzroy, by the 1960s Maria had moved her business to Flinders Lane, in the very heart of Melbourne's fashion district and the CBD, where the shop, head office and its warehouse remain to this day. Maria George was a remarkable person, and a woman alone in business at a time when very few others were; Maria's determination and intuition assisted her to build a business that was to become a household name known throughout Australia. One of her great acts of foresight was to introduce the Japanese Miyuki Delica beads to the Australian market, during the 1990's. Maria saw their beauty and foresaw their potential. Miyuki Delica beads are supreme for every style of beadweaving and a hallmark of the Maria George Pty Ltd level of quality to it's customers.
For 50 years now,  Maria George Pty Ltd has continued to search the world for the best quality beads, sequins, crystals and trims. All of our products are imported into Australia from the four corners of the globe and then packaged in Melbourne. Maria George Pty Ltd is now employing about 20 people and supplies hundreds of australian and NZ embroidery and beading shops + Spotlight Stores in Australia, NZ, Hong Kong and Singapore. Mrs. George sadly passed away in late November 2007 aged 94, but her business is still run by her family in the hands of her great neice Francesca.
